GooSync Kills Free Service

October 8th, 2009 (9:48am) Simon Mackie 5 Comments

goosync_logoGooSync, a handy third-party service that lets you sync Google Calendars, Tasks and Contacts to your mobile device that we’ve covered previously, has announced that it will discontinue its free offering. Starting Oct. 18th, the GooSync Free service will be suspended and users will be migrated to a new plan, called GooSync Lite, that costs £5.99 ($10) per year. GooSync say that this change is the result of “exponential demand for GooSync over the last 12 months.” GooSync Premium users are unaffected by this news.

What’s In Your Bag, Scott Blitstein?

What's In My BagEarlier this week Simon asked us to share what we carry with us when we go mobile. Unlike Aliza, my forays out of the office tend to be short, usually for things like client meetings or local presentations, so my needs are pretty sparse. I bring with me what I need to accomplish my trip’s goals, plus the general tools that I find I may need no matter where I am headed.

There’s nothing particularly fancy inside, but it is all functional and each piece fits its required role perfectly.

GooSync Adds Support for Multiple Devices

August 19th, 2008 (1:00pm) Scott Blitstein No Comments

GooSync, the handy mobile synchronization service that we’ve covered in the past, today announced an upgrade that allows you to add multiple devices to your Premium account.

In a nutshell, GooSync facilitates an over the air synchronization of your Google calendars and contacts with up to 4 mobile devices. It is possible for each device to have separate settings to control specifically which calendars or contact categories are synchronized, but they all must connect to the same Google account.

A free account is still available but multiple device support is just one of the really nice extra features of a Premium account. It runs about $40/year, a real bargain in my opinion for the ability to stay up to date no matter where I am.

Is multi-device support important to you?

Keep Your Mobile Device in Sync With GooSync

July 10th, 2008 (5:30pm) Scott Blitstein 7 Comments

GooSync LogoI’ve recently upgraded to a Windows Smartphone, and like any good Web Worker I am looking to tweak the maximum amount of functionality and productivity from it that I possibly can. I access my Gmail via IMAP using the built in messaging client, and with my contacts stored nicely in BatchBook (which I’ve covered before) and my calendars available online in Gcal, I really thought I would be all set.

As nice as the mobile interfaces for these apps are though, I found I did miss the benefits of having this information stored in my phone’s native apps, specifically for caller ID and visibility from the main screen without needing to launch a browser.

So with a bit of online research, I was really pleased to find the GooSync service from the folks at Toffa.
