7 Handy iPhone Apps For Your Work

November 4th, 2009 (7:00am) Aliza Sherman 6 Comments

iphoneWe at WebWorkerDaily review a lot of web apps. Since many of us — and many of you — have iPhones, I like to keep tabs on web apps we’ve written about, to see whether they get a companion iPhone app. So here’s a list of seven useful iPhone apps for some of the better web apps that we’ve reviewed.

  1. Shoeboxed. Organize your receipts and business cards through this service (see our review here). With the web app, you scan in what you want to save and organize or mail in your “shoebox” of items to scan and let Shoeboxed do it for you. The results are searchable and easy to organize. With the iPhone app, you can take a photo to digitize a receipt or card. Read the rest of this entry »

Evernote 3.5 Windows Beta Launches, Features Now on Par With Mac Version

September 25th, 2009 (7:00am) Will Kelly 1 Comment

Evernote_logo Evernote has released Evernote 3.5 Beta for Windows, as James over at jkOnTheRun reported yesterday. I was keen to try it out as I’ve come to depend on Evernote to keep track of the random ideas I need to record, like WWD post ideas and other project research. The beta is available to both premium and free users.

The beta brings with it some much-needed performance and user interface enhancements, which put it on par with its Mac cousin. In fact, for those of you who switch between Evernote on a Windows PC and a Mac, some of the beta enhancements should look very familiar to you.

When Evernote Meets Twitter

September 14th, 2009 (11:00am) Will Kelly 6 Comments

Evernote_LogoAlong with the addition of collaboration features, Evernote now integrates with Twitter. My first reaction to this news was that Evernote was falling into the “me too” trap that some companies get into with social media, especially with Twitter.

However, after stepping back and looking at Evernote’s strong track record of rolling out new features and reviewing my Twitter usage, I realized that I do have some tweets that are worthy of recording with Evernote, including:

  • Links to notable articles or blog posts
  • Links to my WebWorkerDaily posts
  • Links to my more snarky and pithy posts

Collaborating With Evernote

July 10th, 2009 (7:00am) Will Kelly 8 Comments

I spend many of my working days (and nights) switching between Windows and Mac machines. Having my project notes available across all my machines is very important, making Evernote one of my most-used applications.

You can now use Evernote Web to collaborate on your notes using the new Shared Notebooks feature. This new feature opens up some new options for web workers who are collaborating with business partners and clients, and for employers who want a central repository for project notes and ideas that is accessible to every project member regardless of their location.

3 Options for Sharing Your Project Research

July 2nd, 2009 (7:00am) Thursday Bram 5 Comments

ResearchWhen it comes to collaborative projects, there’s one area where I’ve found it particularly easy to trip up, especially if you’re working with a team you never see in person. As you put together the initial research for a project — maybe interview notes for a series of blog posts, great examples for a web site design, or the figures for a marketing plan — keeping the information organized and accessible for everyone involved can be a major hassle. Are the Free Lunch Days Over for Web Apps?

June 22nd, 2009 (4:00pm) Doriano "Paisano" Carta 17 Comments

registerEditor’s note:  With this post we wecome Doriano Carta to the WWD team. Doriano, better known as “Paisano” on Twitter and everywhere else online, has written for several blogs including Mashable, SarahLacy.com, PistachioConsulting and Chris Brogan’s Dadomatic.com where he is also the Editor-in-Chief.

How much are you willing to pay for your favorite web apps and services? That’s the key question to which every app developer wants an answer. It seems as if the provider of every once-free service is now pondering ways to make money and extract revenue from their members, which makes sense when you consider that they are, after all, businesses.

Remember that old adage, you get what you pay for? Will we continue to see more of our favorite free services following this model of offering stripped down freemium accounts along with feature-rich premium plans? Will online advertising ever allow these sites to generate enough revenue to avoid going this route?

Evernote Releases BlackBerry App

May 11th, 2009 (9:24am) Simon Mackie 6 Comments

logoEvernote, the multi-platform note-taking app that we’ve covered many times previously, today announced the release of a free BlackBerry app, Evernote for BlackBerry, now available from BlackBerry App World.

The new app is available to all Evernote users and is compatible with recent BlackBerry models running  OS 4.6 and later (including Bold, Storm and Curve). It has camera support and audio recording for note-taking on the go.

Of course, previously you could always use the web browser on your BlackBerry to access the Evernote web site, but a dedicated client adds more functionality and should please the many users who have been asking for a dedicated app.

Have you tried Evernote for BlackBerry? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Springpad Online Notebooks Help Get Things Done

November 17th, 2008 (9:00am) Scott Blitstein 12 Comments

Springpad - LogoMany of us who have embraced The Web as the place for our stuff have looked to applications like Backpack, Evernote, or Google Notebook as places to store all of the things that we need to get or stay organized.

While most apps of this type tend to be free form or even business focused, Springpad is a series of online notebooks designed to be a whole life organizational tool. Stay on top of not only your business or professional projects and items, but also track your personal life as well.
