As evidenced by our weekly reader profiles, web workers are diverse bunch. Our definition of "web worker" is "anyone who works using the web" -- that's a pretty broad definition. What, exactly, do web workers do? How do they do their work?

As evidenced by our weekly reader profiles, web workers are a diverse bunch. Our definition of “web worker” is “anyone who works using the web” — but admittedly, that’s a pretty broad definition. What, exactly, do web workers do? How do they do their work? Where do they work?

We wanted to find out. So, in conjunction with our colleagues over at our research division, GigaOM Pro, we present to you a short survey aimed at getting a clearer picture of today’s web worker. By way of thanks, in addition to posting some of the results here on WebWorkerDaily, we’ll send all participants an executive summary of the report we’ll be producing for GigaOM Pro. And if that’s not enough, if you take the survey we’ll also enter you into a draw to win one of four $50 Amazon gift cards.

Answers given in this survey will only be used in analysis for the report (we’ll send you report summary PDF) — nothing else.

So head on over, take the survey and help us to get a better idea of what web workers do and how they do it. It’ll only take a few minutes of your time.

Hey, maybe you’re just starting out, maybe you’re boot-strapping it, or maybe you’re just economical. Whatever it is, if you run a small business and don’t have an outsourced IT pro you should consider using LogMeIn Free for fast, simple support of your colleagues and employees.

LogMeIn Free offers remote control of any Internet-enabled computer, be they PC and Mac, from anywhere, anytime. And it’s got a compelling selling point: it’s free.
Just create an account with LogMeIn, install the software on any computer you need to support and you’re good to go. Using LogMeIn Free is just like sitting in front of the remote computer. All the applications, all the files — everything is there for you to use.

Learn more about how LogMeIn Free helps solve IT issues for small businesses.

Let’s face it: When it comes to working remotely, there’s still a lot of pushback in the corporate world. However, the tide is turning thanks to companies like LogMeIn, which make working from home — or anywhere, for that matter — easier for you and your company.

With nearly 20 million users, LogMeIn Free lets people access their remote computers — be they PC or Mac — and all their files and programs, from anywhere, anytime, in order to do anything.

Because LogMeIn Free lets you use the remote computer just like you’re sitting in front of it without restriction (oh all right, it needs to be turned on), it’s becoming one of the de facto tools for remote workers and may just be pointing the way to a future in which no one is tied to a location in order to access data — and a time when all bosses will be cool with that.

Of course, it’s different when you’re the boss. Like Richard, CEO of Subliminal Science, who runs the Scottsdale-headquartered company out of Tulsa, Okla.

Today, there are millions of people — from IT professionals to entrepreneurs to students — who, just like Richard, use LogMeIn Free to help them take care not only of business, but life.

Check out more stories and maybe get a little inspiration about how you can work from home with LogMeIn Free.

Over on our sister blog jkOnTheRun, James has published his top five ways to get the most out of remote control app LogMeIn (see our previous coverage of the app here). In summary, James explains:

Why display settings are key

How to tap into computing horsepower

Ways to support computers remotely

How to access a work computer from home

How to use your home PC from any public PC

The section I found particularly interesting was his explanation of the ability to tap into computing horsepower while on the road using LogMeIn. You could, for example, take a lightweight netbook (or a tablet computer, like an iPad) while traveling, but still have access to a much more powerful machine at home for resource-intensive tasks when needed. For much more detail, explanations and inside tips on getting more out of a LogMeIn setup, check out James’ post.
