I am a self employed IT Consultant and work from home. Over a period of time the freedom to decide for myself gave me in a way some kind of evil power to get rid of routines. I always liked flexibility and enjoyed it very much but it just does not seems to be working anyhow.

So, I decided to look up more in detail about routine and what others thought about it. Having gone through your post I am starting to have a feeling that routine is important. I am estimating that I would have to put in lot of efforts to get anywhere even closer to making sense about things I do in my day to day life.

I would really like to thank you very much for sharing your views and thoughts and I am sure this post is going to be useful for several other unorganized freaks like me.

I agree, this is a huge thing. And it's not always easy to get into a routine. I think an easy way to get into a routine is to actually write down a schedule for yourself.

I am in the same boat though, I think less is more. There are some things that really aren't necessary for your working day. It's a bit like losing weight. When you shed those extra activities (no matter how small) you feel oh so much better.

Good post.
