GooSync Kills Free Service

October 8th, 2009 (9:48am) Simon Mackie 5 Comments

goosync_logoGooSync, a handy third-party service that lets you sync Google Calendars, Tasks and Contacts to your mobile device that we’ve covered previously, has announced that it will discontinue its free offering. Starting Oct. 18th, the GooSync Free service will be suspended and users will be migrated to a new plan, called GooSync Lite, that costs £5.99 ($10) per year. GooSync say that this change is the result of “exponential demand for GooSync over the last 12 months.” GooSync Premium users are unaffected by this news.

  • I took advantage of a “lifetime” offer for the premium service back when I wrote about this originally and haven’t ever regretted it. It allows me to sync multiple calendars and all my contacts without any hassle.

I’d like to see integration with other task managers but for calendar and contact sync I still recommend GooSync highly.

  • [...] WebWorkerDaily reported the news, and while it seems obvious that current GooSync users would have received an email from GooSync announcing the changes, I was unable to find any information about the service change on their website at all. GooSync doesn’t seem to have a company or product blog, or at least there isn’t one linked to from the GooSync site. WebWorkerDaily reports that GooSync’s change in policy is due to “exponential demand for GooSync over the last 12 months”. That seems unlikely, given that Google has recently released a free synchronization service that covers the lion’s share of what GooSync offers, plus push Gmail. [...]
