Very well articulated, could not of said it better myself. Took me years to figure it out. I went as far as writing a program to gather keywords submitted by users called botcatcher, and checks crawler rates.

Nice additional tips. Defining “regular basis” for fresh content can depend on the niche, though. Some require it daily, while others won’t necessarily need much more than once a month. For that matter, for some you’d be hard pressed to come up with quality content more than once a month.

Those are very useful tips for starters. I would like to add a few that I have found helpful: • Make sure the content is fresh. Add to the content on a regular basis. Fresh content attracts those spiders! • Make sure that the links to your site, as well as those within it contain the keywords or phrases • Finally, make sure you are not splitting links. For instance, check for index .html tags on your domain name. If you find it, you are splitting links. http://www.aafter.com

Great post, but be warned. Once you understand SEO, you’ll never build another site casually again.

I operate 7 blogs and 5 websites, and doing SEO on all of them really isn’t fun. However, once the visitors start to flow in organically, it’s such a gratifying experience.

In today’s online business, if you build it, they will come….. with proper SEO. I also wrote a quite guide back in may, fun reference.

Excellent SEO 101. The importance of key word phrase analysis for websites, however, cannot be over emphasized. Many, many excellent websites with great content languish in vast cyberspace where nobody ever finds them for the simple reason that the no keyword phrase research was ever done. The best free resource for key word research, in my experience, is google adwords. Firefox extension KGen and the SEOquake toolbar for Firefox are also excellent free tools.

The problem is you are competing in a ‘crowd.’ You are in a saturated market. Try focusing your business idea so that you can be number one in your niche. What makes your product unique and something that others can’t copy? Once you have a unique core business idea, the rankings will take care of themselves.

Summed up pretty well. Took me a long time to realize that content is what matters most (and fresh content is better). Only thing I would add is that if you can make your links keywords, this also helps search engines.
