Never Forget an Attachment with Outlook Attachment Reminder

If you use Outlook and sometimes get replies to your emails saying, “I think you might have forgotten the attachment,” you should check out Outlook Attachment Reminder, a simple VBScript macro. When you click the Send button it checks the body of the email for “attach” in the text (so it will also catch “attachment”, “attached”, etc). If “attach” is present and there is no attachment to the email a warning message pops up.

This is a really simple yet effective macro. It’s something that I had actually been meaning to put together myself for a while but never got around to.
If you use Thunderbird, you can try a similar add-on: Attachment Reminder. Google has a similar feature in Gmail Labs — Forgotten Attachment Detector — but it doesn’t work for me.

Or you can use the Evolution mail app for Linux which has this feature built in. I don’t know how long it’s been there- at least since I migrated in October 2008.
@Dave That’s cool, but I’m actually surprised that most email apps don’t have this built-in, at least as an option. It’s something I’ve been meaning to write for *ages*, but I only think to do it when I forget an attachment…
@Simon – I agree. It’s a pretty simple idea that can save lots of pain. The first time I experienced it in Evolution I didn’t actually need to attach anything, but felt comforted by the “care” the app was showing.
It’s the kind of feature that takes an app from being simply useful to being something that watches out for you.
This is a very good idea. It happend to me more than once to send emails to my clients and forget the attachment.
@Adrian Fortunately this happens to everyone, so it’s not too embarrassing when it happens. Still I’d prefer not to get those “hey, no attachment!” emails :-)
