[...] I, on the other hand, looked forward to these workshops. I believe that this was the activity that gave me the best preparation for web working. Like those workshops, online freelance work tends to be a public affair. Your blog posts, design work, marketing efforts, and most of your business output is done where the public can see them. In a way, you’re putting your work in front of a firing squad.
1. Take a deep breath and work out if the criticism is justified and, if it is, work out what you can do about it.

2. If 1 doesn't apply, ignore it. People like to criticise. A lot of the time it is to hide their own lack of self-esteem.

I've had this happen to me a time or two. Fortunately, the criticisms were baseless and easily disarmed.

Taking it personally and making it personal are two things you really shouldn't do.

If the author gives 5 reasons why they think you're wrong, give them 10 reasons why you know you're right.

Be firm but be fair...

I has been criticized profusely on one of my posts. Well, this is a very interesting and is seemingly helpful for bloggers who have provocative topics on their blogs.

I had my own Seth Godin moment earlier this year (though on a much smaller scale). A post I wrote was not only criticised online in comments on my post and others, but I was phoned up at work about it!

As this was a first for me, I hadn't really figured out how vicious people can be, perhaps because of the anonymising effect of the web. It really hurt, and for a while I was dreading checking my email in case there was another response.

What did I do about it? Two main things. Firstly I realised that I have to take responsibility for what I write, and that even in my relatively small sphere my blog has a global audience. That means I am now a lot more circumspect about what I write, and to be honest I don't think that's a bad thing!

Secondly, if you just walk away, it does stop. Really. I had gotten into a fight with a real troll on someone else's blog over the whole affair, and in the end I just walked away from it and banned myself from re-visiting the thread. I still don't know if he ever commented on it again and now, of course, I couldn't give a monkey's about it.

I guess it's worth pointing out to the people that do the criticising, which is all of us at one point or another, that just because you're looking at a screen and not someone's face, it still hurts. There is a person behind every website and every blog post. Choose your words carefully...

Hi
when someone critisized one of my job, i'm thinking about two things

First : critisism is a very widespread human behavior.
Second (most important) : people who critisized my work doesn't have entire information about the ins and out
