Calgoo Goes Free

July 23rd, 2008 (8:00am) Mike Gunderloy No Comments

ScreenshotCalgoo, whose calendar-sharing products we’ve written about from time to time, have made a major change in their strategy: all of their products are now free. The announcement covers their whole line, including the free desktop Calgoo Calendar, the calendar sync utility Calgoo Connect, and the Calgoo Hub sharing service.

Of course, there’s seldom such a thing as a free lunch, even in Web 2.0. As covered on the Calgoo blog, the switch is being fueled by a “move to in-calendar advertising business models.” Specifically, if you’re using Calgoo Hub, or using the other products via Hub, then you might see ads inserted into your calendar. Details of the insertion aren’t yet available, and the ad rollout apparently hasn’t started yet.
