PDF Download Gets Even Better

ScreenshotI’ve mentioned PDF Download before – it’s one of my favorite unobtrusive Firefox extensions. It sits in the background, and when you click a PDF link, you get a choice as to whether to open them in the browser, open them in an external viewer, or view them as HTML. Now, there’s a beta of version 2.0 available, and it’s better than ever.

The new version supports Firefox 2/3 and Flock and has an improved PDF to HTML engine. But the best part is the new address bar button that lets you save the current page as a PDF. The rendering into PDF is quite good; I threw some complex pages at it with no trouble. The only limit I hit was that it can’t be used on password-protected pages, since the conversion is proxied through the NitroPDF servers. The beta is limited to the first 10,000 signups; if you don’t get there in time, you can still install version 1.0.
