Mac-using web workers have had to sit on the sidelines while Outlook-based mail organizer Xobni (see our coverage) garnered positive reviews. Now there’s a bit of similar goodness available for users of Apple’s Mail.app client: the RelatedMail plugin. After an easy installation, this app indexes your mail, and then whenever you select a message a sidebar shows related conversations. If you have a huge client-side mail archive, this gives you an easy way to find pertinent history without filing everything to death or trying multiple Spotlight searches to find what you want.

The current beta version has a few rough edges, but the functionality is there. Already I find myself looking to the sidebar to tell what I’ve done about a given topic in past months. Though I suspect some day all major mail clients will have this functionality built in, I appreciate having it here today – and for free, at that.
