Mike–Thanks for highlighting the point about legality–it is so often overlooked. But don’t forget microstock–yes, it costs, as little as $1, so not free–but you are assured that the imagery is fresh and legally approved. People should also always check HOW a site ensures legality–a simple search of many online stock sites today can easily reveal hundreds of violations.

iStockphoto started the industry and has more than 3 million images available with thousands added weekly, plus thousands of videos now too, all inspected by a trained, real, live person for quality and any trademark violations before they are posted for sale. There are great articles on the site about trademark and copyright violations.

You can choose to pay as you go, or, if you are really busy, get a subscription or a corporate account.

PicApp is also another great source of images. They have millions of images from places like Getty and Corbis available for bloggers to use for free.
