VMware Revs Fusion

Web workers who’ve switched to the Mac but still need to run a few Windows applications have several alternatives for doing so. Of these, we’re especially fond of VMware Fusion, which allows running Windows virtual machines within the confines of OS X. Now VMware has announced the release of VMware Fusion 2.0 Beta 1 as a public download, with a nice set of minor upgrades.
Highlights include support for up to 10 displays in a Fusion session, DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 2 3D support, automatic detection and mapping of physical printers, better management of libraries of virtual machines, and direct import of VMs built for Parallels or Virtual PC. They’ve also fine-tuned things like the settings dialog and the appearance and behavior of windows in Unity mode. The cost? If you already own VMware Fusion 1.x, it will be a free upgrade; a current 1.x license goes for $79.99 with a $20 mail-in rebate.

I just purchased my first Apple computer, a Macbook Pro, and I virtualized my Windows laptop so I wouldn’t have to reinstall everything. It works great and I am amazed at how easy it is. I can’t wait for the 2.0 release.
