Get a Google Help File

May 2nd, 2008 (8:00am) Mike Gunderloy 1 Comment

ScreenshotOne of the annoying things about Google’s applications is that they use online hyperlinked help broken up into numerous small pages - which is great if you know exactly what you’re looking for. The system falls down into a nightmare of clicks, though, if you’re trying to get an overview of an application, or have to go hunting for information without knowing where it’s filed. This acts as a barrier to using the full functionality of the applications for many people.

Unofficial weblog Google Operating System has a great tip if you’re in this situation: add ?fulldump=1 to the URL of the Google help center for things like GMail or Google Docs to get all of the help on a single (often huge) web page. Then you can save these to your desktop to peruse at your leisure. You’ll find handy links over at the GOS post.

Great tip! This has always annoyed the hell outa me. Thanks.

Google, are you listening? How ’bout a little link icon for a single-page view, please? I’m kinda amazed you haven’t noticed how much time is wasted loading and re-loading pages!
