We actually work with many many customers for whom faxing is mission critical... although doing it through a fax machine or in house server has become way too costly.

Outsourced commercial grade faxing has become the way to go.

Funny, reading this yesterday, then today accepting an OnForce order for which I will have to fax a signed form. For those who retain a landline, it's good that fax is pretty standard as part of low cost multifunction printers. Not heavy duty, perhaps, but useful for now and then.

Believe it or not, fax machine is still a favorite tool for direct marketers. I still see a lot of sales offers for vacation travels, discount brokers, etc. showing up on my company's fax machine. The fact that they are still persistent in sending these sales offers proves that fax machine is a proven media for direct marketing.

Great points. I recently found out that my Tax Service is behind the times as well. I asked if I could send back a signed document (w/ password) by email. They were completely stunned that this was possible!
