A Cure for Lost Cell Phones

March 5th, 2008 (8:00am) Mike Gunderloy 4 Comments

We may be web workers, but very few of us can survive without our cell phones as well. And as those phones grow smaller and more expensive, there’s some variant of Murphy’s Law that dictates they will be lost more often. Just about every web worker I know has gone through the annoying hours-long search for the misplaced instrument.

Now there’s a web site to make the task a bit easier: Where’s My Cell Phone? It’s a one-trick pony: put in your phone number, click “Find It!,” and they dial and let it ring until you find it and pick up the call. For those who no longer have a land line in the house to do the same thing, this can be a real timesaver.

  • Hey Mike, this service is great, but its only for misplaced phones. Do you know of anything that could help a stolen phone, say somehow shut it down completly so the thief can’t use it or resell it, or are their any programs like they have in Europe, where we can purchase cell phone insurance and can get a replacement phone free.

  • I don’t know of anything like that off the top of my head. Perhaps some of our readers do?

  • Now if I could just get a site called “Where’s my Bluetooth earpiece?”!

  • Hi,
Is there any website where I can backup the contacts in my mobile phone. I use Nokia E61.
