CoverItLive Offers Easy Live Blogging

February 28th, 2008 (8:00am) Mike Gunderloy 2 Comments

You’ve probably seen “live blogging” on some of the major blogs: posts that are updated frequently during a news event, whether that be an earnings call or a MacWorld keynote. Toronto-based CoverItLive wants to bring the same experience to your blog. They offer an iframe-based AJAX solution that lets you easily create a live blog on your own page, with the contents being hosted on their servers. Special console software lets you easily update the live blog, and includes additional features like polling and rich media management.

While it’s always possible to do a live blog just by frequently hitting “publish” in your blog software, CoverItLive does offer enough additional features and interactivity to be attractive. Potential drawbacks? The inside of the frame probably won’t match your blog’s style completely, and of course you’re depending on their servers to stay up to keep your live-blogged content available. But within those constraints, this looks like a reasonable solution for bloggers trying to push news coverage to the next level.
