If you have any documents saved on Coventi Pages you likely received this email:

An important notice for all Coventi users:

We regretfully inform you that Coventi, Inc. will cease operations on February 1, 2008. At that time, you will no longer be able to log in to www.coventi.com and access your documents.

If you have important documents on Coventi, please log in before February 1 and download them to your local computer. You can do this easily, by navigating to your document and selecting “Download Revision” from the “Options” menu at the top of the screen. You may download the document to Word (.DOC), OpenDocument (.ODT), Adobe PDF, Rich Text (.RTF) or Plain Text (.TXT). For assistance, please contact support@coventi.com.

Thank you for using the Coventi service; we have enjoyed working with you.

Best regards,
The Coventi Team

As of Sunday night, there’s no information about the company’s shut down on their home page or blog.

Coventi’s product offered collaboration features that were a cut above the rest. Initial reviews were encouraging, but it appears the application never generated enough buzz (positive or negative) over online document editing competition from services such as Zoho and Google Docs & Spreadsheets. It takes more than a handful of good features to rise above the noise these days.

  • Got any alternatives we can use now that Conventi is gone?

  • Hi Geoff,

I changed to Nomadesk – http://www.nomadesk.com some time ago. It’s a collaboration tool for small teams. I think one of the main advantages is that you don’t have to be connected to the internet to access your shared files. They are stored on your local computer and the changes are synchronized with the other members when you connect to the internet.
It’s not about collaboration bells and whistles: I love its simplicity and reliability.
You might want to check them out.

  • Geoff,
Please have a look at our product http://www.cognopolis.com
It is a ready-to-use solution for online collaboration and knowledge management, including tools and workflow for document creation, sharing, approval, editing and publishing. The user privileges and the document visibility can be set on a document level.
Each Cognopolis site comes with a full set of Web 2.0 tools (knowledge base, news management, blogs, forums, downloads, galleries, FAQ, calendar, messaging, page building), with such functionality as tunable full text search, tagging, rating, RSS feeds, commenting, and with full administration allowing for very flexible setting of user privileges and content visibility. There are many new features coming, including export and archiving of the site content. Individual modules can be turned off if not needed.
I hope you find it useful for your particular needs. Please feel free to contact me if you need more information.
