@Mr. Crash - the real take home message is to take a hard look at whether the future can happen now. I wish that I had made the break a year earlier, but because I believed that things would "just get better at work" I hung in there.

It's all about being happy where you are. If you love what you're currently doing, great. If not, make a change.

Huh, I hadn't noticed that they're already outfitted. I stick mostly to the Victoria run though -- much cheaper than going in to Vancouver.

@Jon

Why do the Spirit's have wifi antennas all over the place then? I think at least for the hop to Vancouver its very likely... why would you install AP's (cisco ones don't come cheap) without intending to do anything with it.

The money's been spent, now they just need the land based antennas and to offer it.

Who'd have guessed there's so many S. Gulf Islanders on WWD? Thanks all, it's been a great 8 months so far, looking forward to the next 8 (and beyond).

@monica Indeed. I've seen a bunch of your work out here, so you must be busy!

@Andrew My understanding is that the WISP is line of sight. You're right, of course that it's not THAT isolated. Mayne is a wonderful, friendly community. I would kill for Ferry wifi (but that's probably the only way we would have any hope of getting BC Ferries to spend money on it ;-)

Mayne isn't all that isolated 'net wise - most of us over on Pender have cable and there's an local WISP which I hear is pretty good.

Although for the biggest downside of island life - the boats, wifi on the ferries would be the ultimate killer service. No longer killing time on the boats / lineups would be sweet.

On the other hand, the fishing's great!

Just wanted to belatedly say hi and wish you much success here on our little island. Maybe one day we can stop looking at monitors long enough to meet.
