Kick Off Your Daily Firefox Browsing with Morning Coffee
When you start your day each morning, you may have a set of sites you visit — your online email and calendar, a couple news sites, maybe a blog or two, your Facebook or MySpace page. Make it easy on yourself by installing the dead-simple Morning Coffee Firefox add-on. It allows you to open a bunch of sites at once with the click of a button. That way, even if you haven’t yet had your strong cup of java, you won’t forget to check the sites you need to.
Once you download and install the extension, you can add sites one at a time or as a set and specify which days they should be opened. You can even choose different sets of sites for Monday/Wednesday/Friday, Tuesday/Thursday, weekdays, and weekends, so you can keep tabs on sites that update less frequently or skip over workday sites on Saturdays and Sundays.
Then, when you start your browser in the morning, just click on the coffee cup button and the pages for that day will be loaded into tabs. If you don’t already subscribe to Web Worker Daily by RSS, maybe you’ll want to include it in your weekday sites so you can be sure to catch our new WWD Coffee Break links roundup.
You can get similar functionality with the del.icio.us Firefox extension. Simply tag all your “morning coffee” websites with a tag of your choice (I use the tag “daily”), and set that tag to display in your del.icio.us toolbar. Click that tag in the toolbar, and choose “Open in Tabs”. If you have different sites for different days of the week, just use different tags.
As an Opera user, I’m trying to think of ways to mimic this interesting plugin. Off the top of my head:
Fekk: You can do this in Firefox without an extension, too. Just make a folder with your bookmarks and then right click and select “open all in tabs” in the morning. Need different things on different days? Make a different folder.

I have been using Morning Coffee for some time. A very useful add-on.
A nice enough add-on, but I think I get by fine with the Firefox Bookmarks Toolbar. I have folders for Email (multiple accounts), blogging (blog site, typepad, feedburner), news (bbc, haaretz, information clearing house). So my bookmark toolbar is task oriented, I want to check to check the news, I right click on the News folder in my toolbar and say open in tabs, and hey presto.
Do this with vanilla Firefox:
o Open desired sites in tabs o Bookmark all tabs (c-s-D on windows), typing a name for your new group o Drag the group onto the taskbar (I forget the name) at the top under the navigation bar o Middle click on it to open them all at once
I use it for my morning browse – works like a charm.
HOWEVER, be aware that it may not be a best practice to do this first thing in the morning. Think about doing a High Value Task before the click. :-)
Or you could put all of your “daily reading” websites on your bookmark bar, then every morning you right-click on it and select “Open All In New Tabs”.

I started using FF only six months ago. The extensions available are amazing. iOpus iMacros, fire FTP,Scribefire, Meebo, and this Morning coffee….They make the Web fun again. This morning Coffee is great because i already have to many atom/rss feeds, This is nice an simple and can be configured differently for each day. Thanks for the suggestion.
There’s a million ways to do this… I prefer using RSS but this could be good for those sites where the RSS feed is ridiculously big so you want to browse the actual site instead.
For an extension such as this to be worthwhile, it needs to offer functionality that goes beyond what Firefox already provides. For example, it would be very useful if you could setup Morning Coffee to login to your various accounts (via preconfigured username/password), in addition to opening regular web pages. Something like that would be incredibly useful. Otherwise, as-is, this extension is quite unnecessary.
