[...] The Web Worker Daily blog recently detailed fifteen ways to make use of a wiki. I’m happy to report that we use our company wiki for at least eight of those. As our company grew, it meant more people and more client information to keep track of. Searching for information on a shared network drive became too time consuming and frustrating. We had no effective way to compile, store, access and edit our most important information. Client histories, guidelines on writing .php code, design preferences, employee handbooks, phone lists, ongoing projects and the like were just not as available as we needed them to be.
Thanks for this article. Very useful. Infact different uses for Wiki keep emerging and it is always interesting to see what people are coming up with. We are doing what you suggested in section 3, but instead of creating operation manuals for internal use, we are creating user guides for our clients. It is working very well at the moment and so have written about it on my blog: <a href='http://www.bytesite.co.uk/wiki-user-guide' rel="nofollow">Wiki user guides</a> which I hope will be of some use to people.

The only use for a personal wiki not mentioned here is for managers to make notes on "inside information" that may need to be passed onto others in a succession plan. Possibly a "Succession Wiki." Many managers leave a big hole when they leave an organization. This can also work for any employee who may have specialized knowledge that may need to be passed on some day.

Excellent list. This list just goes to show that there really isn't any typical use for a wiki. It's most useful when you find the best uses for your particular needs.

Great article! I think many times people don't see the specific value that a wiki can offer in their business so a list like this will really help. Also, I think adding video comments will be very useful for a wiki depending on how easy it is for people to add this type of content. CoActLive.com has a wiki that is very media friendly (http://www.coactlive.com)

This is a great list of all the things that can be done with a wiki. I would definitely recommend this to anyone new to using wikis, especially for their work.
