Being a bursty worker myself I have experienced the workspace there this kind of work is appreciated (building a new plant, being within a help organnization working in a crisis) and where it isn't (being put down to standard work, without getting a chance to improve the process; working under a control orientated boss).

Bursty really looks alien to other workers who are used to 9-5-jobs, they can't imagine that ideas can come up at midnight, or during holidays that have relevance to the job.

What makes the environment more friendly towards bursty workers.

Cheers,

Ralf

[...] We need to alter our focus to ensure we’re providing engaging, fulfilling places to work. Where the work done has real meaning and staff are empowered to make their own decisions and get on with the job. Presence-based work practices are the stuff of the Industrial Revolution.
[...] Bursty. It’s a term I have started to use over the past several months when attempting to describe the nature of Jewish engagement. Borrowed from the technical understanding of network theory, “burstyness” occurs in structured networks when the network experience a “burst” of activity, either as the result of intentional stimuli or because of the natural behavior of the network. The exploration of burst activity in connection with computer networks is an area that has received increased focus as our world has become more and more network-oriented. Additionally, it has even taken on more innovative usage when characterizing the nature of workforce productivity.
