They offer a behind-the-head design, so I’d argue with the New York Times’ claim that they give you a last-century look. In the last century, wired over-the-head and earbud-style headphones ruled. The real reason to choose behind the head is for comfort during long wearing sessions when you want stereo sound.
The Cobalt set has a few nice features: a USB dongle for plugging into your computer as well as a connector for MP3 players and phones, simultaneous pairing with phone and MP3 player, and a button to answer the phone.
Wired or not, what style headset do you prefer for your cell phone, VoIP calls on your PC, for music listening? I love my over-the-head foldable USB Plantronics DSP-400 headset for Skype calls and podcast recording, but it wouldn’t be comfortable for all-day wear.
Have you seen the wiREVO’s? They are earbuds with an around he neck bluetooth pendant controller/mic — found them at Fry’s in Palo Alto and am very pleased — nice performance and no borg vibe.
