Freshen Up Your Invoicing with Basecamp-Freshbooks Integration

Invoicing through your Basecamp projects just got a whole lot fresher. FreshBooks, the online invoicing and time tracking tool, has just announced that they have integrated with Basecamp.
The new integration will offer increased productivity with users of Basecamp having the ability to invoice projects directly through their FreshBooks account. FreshBooks picked two workflow scenarios that should meet the most important needs of 80% of users. The first system integration from Freshbooks is the ability to generate invoices based on time entries or To-Do lists. Project importing is the second integration. This allows Basecamp projects to become FreshBooks projects; To-Dos in Basecamp become tasks in FreshBooks.
FreshBooks’ new build certainly sounds like it will speed up the process of invoicing, while streamlining Basecamp users’ invoicing tasks. Things look pretty straightforward to set up through the Freshbooks interface.

Basecamp is such a plus for any app to integrate with, its almost a no brainier. I am surprised it has taken freshbooks this long to do it. I thought your readers might want to know about our new app (http://wwwLessAccounting.com) It will integrate with basecamp, tickspot, harvest, freshbooks and blinksale.
We are in beta testing it right now, it has some interesting features. Full launch expected April 1st.

Can anyone chime in on what happens if you take a BaseCamp project offline after integrating the two? Projects go inactive after a period of time, clients don’t… And BaseCamp charges more for more active projects.

No worries there Mark - once you import a project into FreshBooks, it’s there for good (unless you delete it)…and so you know there is no limit to the number of projects you can manage in FreshBooks…even the free (no expiry) account.

I started using freshbooks last year and have really grown to love it - basecamp users should appreciate the new functionality.

Invoicing is just one chunk of the web worker’s accounting chores. For everything else there are full-blown accounting packages. The bean-counting story begins with QuickBooks, but it doesn’t end there. See Summing Up Accounting Software.

I’d hardly call this “integration”. One way push of projects is not integration. I think they really need a solid and seamless two-way sync to make this reasonable. Otherwise, I’m stuck moving between these two apps, trying to figure out which ones I “pushed” and which ones I didn’t. It’s pain all over again.
