I use a really simple little technique to lower my stress a bit.

I have a photo of me on vacation next to my computer screen, and I look at it and remember life's not all about work, and that it's time to get some perspective on problems.

Works even better if you're not a home based worker, since you already have quite a few good reminders at home anyway - at work it's pretty sterile, so the photo's more motivational then.

One thing that I have noticed which contributes to my stressed feeling is having a poor office chair/desk. When I have been typing all day, my shoulders begin to ache. Soon I can't tell if my neck is tight because of stress, or tight because my keyboard is at the wrong height.

I plan to get a chair with armrests, and to get a keyboard shelf to fit my desk. If my sore muscles feel better, the stress of working at my monitor all day will not be as bad.

Cheers, J

Setting boundaries is a must to avoid negative stress. Become aware of what one allows to take place within ones boundaries. Not allow anyone to bully you. Show respect for oneself and others is a must.

Something that has helped me to keep my stress in check is to continuely pour large doses of fun activities into my life.

Like if you like movies, then why not rent a movie out one a week and kick back an enjoy the moment. If you like Going out to dinner with friends then why not pick a night and get together.

These things have really helped me.

If you think the effects of stress are begining to affect your health may I recommend that you get your blood pressure checked? High blood pressure is the highest cause of heart disease and stroke. I found this site about blood pressure monitors particularlyhelpful when I decided i wanted to buy my own machine to measure my BP at home.
