Vista….. Yawn. Ok, I have been enjoying the features of Vista and at least (and I suspect more, as I don’[t trust Microsoft with security). the Security of Windows Vista for several years in Mac OS X ….. and the OS runs in under 512 MBytes of RAM. As for the rest of the servers I manage at work are Solarix or RHEL. Just so much easier.

Even though Vista looks good I don’t think I’ll get it, probably go with Linux or just get the MacBook. I heard the EULA for Vista says you can’t run any other OS’s once you install Vista and the whole DRM thing is a bit much. I think the fact that you pretty much have to get a new computer to run Vista is a scam as well.

Personally, I think running Parallels in the first place isn't the smartest (my dad has it and is forever sorting out various issues), but each to their own. I use a Powerbook with Tiger, and the only use I have for Windows is as a gaming computer; and I think with the new Intel processors on Macs, that may change as well. People are going to start latching onto the new possibilites soon (mmm, games...).

I think gigaom has a similar post, and I posted the same question over there: what is the advantage to users who don’t do any gaming or need Windows Media whatever? More eye candy? No thanks.

More secure? Get a decent anti-virus app and don’t go to any porn or warez sites.

What is the compelling reason for this upgrade?

Actually, the launch of Vista helped push me over to Macs. I just ordered a MacBook Pro. I have have to upgrade my existing laptop to use it, why not just make the switch? And I’ve been a longtime Windows user.

Vista is an operating system, for goodness sake! It's supposed to enable us to use other software to get our jobs done. And stay out of the way, not that any of them really do. I can't believe the big hype and that people "buy" that promotion. It's an operating system.

I'm in no hurry to "upgrade".

I certainly won’t be ‘upgrading’ to vista. I just changed my computer to linux (Zenwalk) and there is no way I’m ever going back to MS. Buying a new computer simply to upgrade to vista? What a waste! Keep the old computer and change to linux.

I’ve been using “Vista” features for about 18 months — in Mac OS X Tiger. It’s far more stable, runs blazingly fast on my two-year-old PowerBook G4, and it comes without viruses and spyware. Why anyone still buys Windows PCs is really beyond me.

I see no reason to go to Vista. I use XP and there’s no compelling reason to do so. So it’s.. ho-hum for me.

"Vista is way better than windows XP." yeah, in implementing drm deep into the OS itself. Good luck with it if you're actually creating stuff like music or videos with your pc and one day you'll have to explain vista that you actually really own the rights to the files whilst your own OS doesn't believe you... but hey, microsoft know what they're doing, right?

ps.: I ain't a linuxfanboy, have never tried linux (yet). but as I guess a lot of the people here actually use their 'puter to create something they might be well aware of how much control they all will give away with using vista. I know that I won't install it. At least not in the version that will come out these days

Vista is way better than windows XP. I have been using Vista RC1 and latter versions. I just love it. I personally think if you start using Vista you will get so spoiled that you will never go back to Mac OS X and Windows XP.

I’m in no rush to upgrade to Vista, the one thing putting me off is the nice price tag that accompanies the OS. As I work in a retail store, I was able to read that Vista would be priced at £219.99 – £369.99. A bit excessive in my opinion, and as stated above, I too wouldnt consider upgrading until a SP is released.
