Salesforce is arguably a contact management solution. Salesforce is designed for marketeers – these are the people who run / participate in the focus groups. Seccond on the list are sales managers / finance people. It is wrong to call it a contact management solution in the eyes of a sales person because it is useless at managing task related activity.

CRM ie Salesforce, is designed for multiple departments (not just sales) and multiple business processes. This makes it complex for sales people who just want to record basic activity and reminders. Whilst Salesforce is without question beneficial, it has been popularized to the determent of Contact Management which is designed to support individual sales people.

If you want sales people to be more productive then give them a Contact Management system which supports their efforts. The future of sales productivity will / needs to swing back towards simple to use Contact Management systems which includes collaboration functionality – they will simply be an application which hangs off the back of CRM.

Some CRMs are incredible and so adaptable. We have found that individuals need some very specific tasks to be very functional as well as stripping down functionality that would distracting. I have found that when looking for Contact Management Solutions vendors like Netsuite and Salesboom offer a much more pratical CRM Software Solution compared to Salesforce, for any sized organization. So whether someone is looking for small group management software or any other CRM Solution, I would check out these guys.
